SEEING THE VISION

Making rehabilitation more engaging

Developed during a three-day engineering hackathon, our team explored how gamification and interactive technology could transform repetitive rehabilitation exercises into a more engaging experience

The main challenge was combining mechanical design, electronics, motor control, and power management into a single system

THE CHALLENGE

Turn an idea for a gamified rehabilitation experience into a functional prototype within just 72 hours

Electric skateboard prototype
Therapy game

02

FORMING A PLAN

Designing around the user

With only three days to work, we focused on the essential interactions that would make the rehabilitation experience intuitive, responsive, and enjoyable

The concept combined therapeutic movement with game-based interaction, requiring us to consider both the technical system and the experience of the person using it

MAKING IT HAPPEN

From concept to prototype in 72 hours

Development moved quickly. Instead of separating design, development, and testing into distinct stages, we worked iteratively — building, testing, identifying problems, and making improvements throughout the hackathon

Working under a strict deadline required us to prioritize essential features, divide responsibilities effectively, and make practical engineering decisions as a team

THE OUTCOME

Final Presentation

By the end of the three-day hackathon, Handora had progressed from an initial idea into a functional prototype demonstrating our approach to combining rehabilitation, interaction, and gamification

The experience strengthened my ability to prototype quickly, collaborate under pressure, prioritize ideas, and develop practical solutions within real time and resource constraints

WHAT I LEARNED

Rapid prototyping, human-centered design, iterative development, teamwork, and engineering under tight constraints
